Gas Regulation

According to SANS 10087, the regulations specify the placement and installation of gas bottles:
- Bottles must not be placed closer than 1 meter to a door.
- Bottles must not be placed closer than 2 meters to an open drain or depression, where gas can accumulate if the bottle leaks.
- Bottles must not be placed closer than 5 meters to an electrical switch, motor, generator, pool pump, etc.
- Bottles must not be placed closer than 1 meter to the side of a window unless there is at least 300mm between the bottom of the window and the top of the bottle, and a non-combustible roof is installed between the window and the bottle.
- Bottles must not be placed closer than 1 meter to a boundary wall, unless the wall is a double brick “firewall” over 1.8 meters tall with no ventilation gaps.
Additionally:
- Only a registered LP gas installer is authorized to work on a gas system. Every installation must be certified by the installer with a valid certificate.
- The reinforced “orange” hose connecting appliances must not exceed 2 meters in length, must not have any joins, and must not pass through any walls or partitions.
